What is PATH? Prevention Assistance and Temporary Housing (PATH) intake center.
Who is it for? Temporary transitional housing is available to all New Yorkers verifiably experiencing homelessness, including families with children. All families with children entering the DSS-DHS shelter system must apply for shelter at DSS-DHS' Prevention Assistance and Temporary Housing (PATH) intake center. At these shelter locations, dedicated staff work with each family to support them through this challenging time, offering services and supports to help these families get back on their feet and return to independent living.
What do families need to bring to PATH in order to apply for shelter?
All families who are applying for shelter at PATH must have proper identification for all members of their household, such as:

The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) homeless shelter system provides temporary, emergency shelter.
If you are a homeless family, a single pregnant woman, or a single adult, you can apply to enter the shelter system at an intake center. DHS does not provide transportation services to the shelter.
You can also get assistance if you are about to become homeless. If you would like to speak to a counselor, 311 can give you the address of your local HomeBase office.
You have the right to access shelter services regardless of immigration status.
Pantries are local organization that provides food assistance to individuals and families in need. They are often located within local churches, schools, community centers, or even commercial buildings. The primary role of the pantry is storing food and clothing donations and then passing them on to people in need. In addition to food, clothing, local pantries also provide other resources such as household goods and even hygiene products.
Provide an alternative to traditional supervision, helping people stabilize their lives and re-enter society. Reentry courts focus on reducing recidivism, improving public safety, and saving money. Help people re-enter society after incarceration by removing barriers to successful reentry. Programs can include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help people change negative thought processes and improve their decision making.
